Interview Techniques
Be Attentive, Listen and Question
An interview is an opportunity to help your interviewer understand something about you, and for you to gain knowledge about them and the company they represent.

Basics
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before your interview
  • Be prepared to fill out any company application forms prior to the interview
  • Always have a copy of your CV with you to refer to if your interviewer asks for clarification of something
  • Take an extra copy of your CV with you in the event that the interviewer does not have a copy
  • Turn off your mobile phone
Know yourself
  • Make a short list of the skills, strengths and acheivement that make you relevant for the position you are seeking
  • Know what your career short and long term goals are
  • Do not read directly off of your CV
Know the company
  • Compliment the company on any awards that you know it has been presented with; on the success of a job they have been awarded; or on gaining a new member of management that has been advertised.
Have a series of questions for the interviewer and about the company:
For example:
  • What is your management philosophy?
  • Does the company have any plans for restructuring or expansion?
  • How does this position fit within the division?
  • What is the structure of the organization - is it a matrix or a hierarchy?
  • How many people does this position report to or report to it?
Wrap up
  • Thank the interviewer for their time and ask for his or her card
  • On the same day send an e-mail thanking the interviewer and confirm any appointments that you may have arranged during the interview
